EPD officials say patrol cars will follow buses to watch for dangerous driving near buses. Funding from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute will pay overtime for officers who take part in the program. Authorities said this blitz is aimed at keeping kids on buses safe from erratic driving.

(WFIE) - Officers with the Evansville Police Department arrested two people after they say both were found asleep in a Corvette with the engine running. Around 4 a.m. Thursday, officers say someone called 911 to report a Corvette being driven recklessly, speeding and swerving down Morgan Avenue. The caller described the car as “looking like a galaxy.” ”The call is what tipped us off to have us go in that area to look for that car,” Sgt. Nick Winsett, Evansville Police Department Public Information Officer said. “So, otherwise, who knows, the way they were driving, they may have ended up hitting another car, hitting a house, who knows.”

(WFIE) - Evansville Police say 38-year-old Anthony Scott Sapp is the suspect shot Thursday by a detective. The shooting happened shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of North Ruston Avenue. Police say it started as an investigation into a stolen vehicle. They say Sapp tried to run a stolen car into a detective, and the detective shot him in the shoulder. Police say there was a struggle and a Taser was used to get him into custody.
