A stream of Lenoir-Rhyne University students and parents circled the schoolâs campus Thursday afternoon holding brightly-colored signs and chanting. Car horns echoed in support of their cause: a protest of the universityâs COVID-19 vaccine requirement. About 100 people showed up for the protest, organized by Lenoir-Rhyne student Aubrey Holman. Under a sweltering sun, they made clear their opposition to the vaccination requirement for the fall semester, which Lenoir-Rhyne announced in late June. The university hasnât been receptive to their calls to end the mandate, Holman said. She said she felt a public display was important. âIâm not going to be able to change the mandate, but I want them to know how people feel,â she said. ....

A male was asked to leave and taken to a residence in Brainerd. Report at 12:48 p.m. Tuesday of a small domestic disturbance involving a person who was intoxicated on the 7800 block of Excelsior Road. The person was placed on a bus and taken back to her group home. Report at 7:15 p.m. Dec. 22 of a loud domestic disturbance in an apartment on the 14000 block of Forest Drive. Officers responded and the person stated he was angry and threw a soda on a person and left. Nothing physical reported. ....
