"Help Them Home" Giving Day seeks to raise $1 million to support shelter and resources for homeless


On April 28, the Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF) will host Help Them Home – a collaborative Giving Day aiming to raise $1 million for 20 OC nonprofits working to combat homelessness and its devastating impact on our community. As the wide-ranging fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disproportionately impact our community’s most vulnerable individuals and families, this 24-hour fundraising opportunity comes at a crucial time.
There are an estimated 552,830 homeless individuals in the U.S.– 47% of whom reside in California. And locally, according to United to End Homelessness, there are nearly 7,000 homeless individuals – including more than 300 veterans and almost 700 seniors – in Orange County on any given night. According to the coroner’s office, more homeless people died in Orange County in 2020 than any other year. ....

Mark Zornes Retires After 23 Years with Wyoming Game and Fish


GREEN RIVER Green River Region Wildlife Biologist Coordinator Mark Zornes is retiring after 23 years with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. His last day will be February 23.
Whether he checked you and your game at a check station, in the field or regional office or you talked with him on the phone, chances are Zornes left you with a lasting impression. A native of rural Appalachia, he received a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management from Arkansas Tech University and a master’s degree in wildlife science with a minor in range science from New Mexico State University.
His career spanned more than 27 years from his start as a wildlife biologist in Mountain View in 1993, to a seasoned wildlife management coordinator in Green River. He also worked as a damage aide for the Green River Region in 1994, a staff biologist in the Biological Services Section in Cheyenne in 1995-96, and a wildlife biologist in Wheatland from 1997-2002. ....
