New this morning the army staff sergeant accused of gunning down afghan civilians expected to be charged with 17 counts of murder today. peter doocy live in d.c.. what is being charged with, peter? reporter: on top of the 17 counts of murder, sergeant bales will be charged six counts of attempted murder and aggravated assault and several violations of military law. it has been 12 days since sergeant bales allegedly snuck off his base in afghanistan and into the homes of unsuspecting villagers, several he shot as they slept in their bed before burning some of the bodies. that happened on march 11th. a week ago today, sergeant bales was flown from afghanistan to fort leavenworth, kansas, because that is where the only military high security prison is. he met with his lawyer and will be read all the serious charges. bill: do you have a ends sense how he will defend himself, peter? reporter: yes. his lawyer, john henry brown, ....
