Lets start with the stock market. Its been a rough ride over the last five years. What about the 30 or 40 years, winner or loser . 30, 40 years, its great. It hasnt been a rough ride over the last five years. The market has doubled. But five and a half years ago, it was very distraught. Take a look at any 30, 40year period, which is what youre investing in from twenties to sixties, you put a thousand dollars in the market, you would have 24,000 in 2012. Thats a pretty great return over time. During that period, we had black friday, a black monday, the boom and bust twice during that period of time, so long story short, dont get caught up in the shortterm. Take it longterm, always, always have exposure to the market. It will take care of you over 30, 40year timeframe. Over three or fouryear timeframe, maybe not so much. Probably.
