Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has vowed to support the presidential ambition of the Labour Party, presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, even if such decision will cost his senatorial ambition if it will ensure his victory. Ortom, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, is contesting the election in the Benue North-West senatorial district.
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has lambasted the Benue State Governor, Mr Samuel Ortom for failing to provide good governance for his people. Sowore, who stated via his official Twitter handle on Tuesday, said that Ortom, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) one of the aggrieved G-5 governors who had vowed not to support the presidential candidate of their party, unless the National Chairman, Senator Iyiochia Ayu stepped down for a Southerner, had used "Fulanis" to successfully fool many people.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is absent at the ongoing presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the state. Atiku was in the state to campaign for Oyo electorates’ support as parts of effort to actualise his quest to become the next Nigeria's president. SaharaReporters had reported that Makinde was among the five, aggrieved governors of the PDP, who vowed not to support the party's presidential candidate unless the national chairman of the party, Senator Iyiochia Ayu resigned the position.
Some supporters of Labour Party have expressed their displeasure over the way their party's presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, abandoned the Rivers State governorship candidate of their party to back Sim Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). Speaking with SaharaReporters, sources within the Obi's camp in the state alleged that Peter Obi agreed to support PDP's candidates in Rivers State with the hope that the state governor, Nyesom Wike, would deliver majority votes for him during the presidential poll.
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has tacitly endorsed the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Simi Fubara, for the 2023 general elections in what appears to be reciprocity for his endorsement by Governor Nyesom Wike. Obi reportedly adopted the PDP governorship candidate when he addressed him as the incoming Governor of Rivers State on Thursday while commissioning a project executed by Governor Wike.
