Virtually every effort to provide state tax relief over the last ten years was met with the ‘Don’t Be Like Kansas’ mantra from special interests. They’d claim tax cuts would produce budget deficits like Kansas experienced under Governor Sam Brownback. It wasn’t the concept of cutting taxes that produced deficits; states like North Carolina, Tennessee, and Indiana successfully provided tax relief while Kansas struggled. The problems that Kansas experienced were largely self-inflicted.

The Kansas Republican caucus voted 22 to 4 via secret ballot on Friday evening to remove Senator Gene Suellentrop as Senate Majority Leader.
This decision comes after court documents provided an officer’s account of Suellentrop’s actions the night we was arrested on charges of drunk driving, attempting to flee from law enforcement, and driving 90+ miles per hour the wrong way on a Topeka highway.
In a Republican caucus Friday morning, Senator Rick Kloos of Topeka made the motion to vote Suellentrop out of his role.
Senate President Ty Masterson said that Suellentrop was offered the chance to resign, but he had refused. Several legislators said that a formal resignation from Suellentrop would have been preferable.

The majority leader of the Kansas Senate, who was arrested last month for allegedly speeding and driving the wrong way on a divided highway, called a police officer, who tried to test his blood alcohol levels, “donut boy,” according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The affidavit, which detailed the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Senator Gene Suellentrop, was obtained Thursday by CNN affiliate WIBW.
On March 16, police received several calls about a white SUV that was driving in the wrong direction on I-470 near the Burlingame Road exit in Topeka, according to the Office of the District Attorney, Third Judicial District of Kansas’ news release.
