Progress is being made to clear that. We know what to thank for that, right . In november of last year, harry reid triggered the socalled Nuclear Option. He did away with filibusters on most nominations and made it impossible for members of the Minority Party to block the nominations. No more 60 votes. Thats the idea, anyway. But the Nuclear Option didnt fix everything, either. Theres still something called the blue slip. For a nominee to get a confirmation, both senators from that nominee state must sign off on it. They have to submit a blue slip consenting to the nominee getting a hearing. If they dont, the nomination dies. The blue slip is an old Senate Tradition but the rules of it have changed over the years. When republicans controlled the white house under george w. Bush, they did away with it and democrats
