Dimapur, July 3 (EMN): A tree plantation drive was organised by Liyai range, Senapati Forest Division to celebrate 73rd Van Mahotsav 2022 at Dzüduri Eco-Tourism Park and Purul village in Senapati district, Manipur. The drive was held in line with the Manipur government’s vision of planting 75 lakh saplings by August 2022 to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, an update informed. More than 7000 saplings of Cassia, Gulmohar, Ceylon Ironwood, Walnut, Oak, Alder, and Camphor etc. were planted by the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Kho Peter, the president of Khumai (Tunggam) Union remarked, ‘The millennial generation today are over stimulated by smartphones and computer screens but has lost connection with Mother Nature. We need to make concerted effort to reconnect with her by restoring her health through community tree plantation’. The next generation needs to be immersed in nature to truly value its sacredness.
