Energy Sector Assisting Texas Relief Efforts Following February Freeze
Following the devastating winter storm Uri last month that left millions of Texans without electricity for days and billions in damages, utilities and oil and gas producers, along with other industries, have stepped up to assist with relief efforts. 
The damage and economic losses from the winter storms in February could reach $155 billion across the country. Damages in Texas alone have been estimated at $50 billion-plus. In reaction, energy companies with operations in Texas have donated millions.

Reliant Energy is donating $50,000 to the Houston branch of Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit focused on repairing homes, to direct support to at-risk seniors and military veteran homeowners to repair weather damage.  ....

 (NYSE: SRE) today announced that the Sempra Energy Foundation is pledging $1 million to assist communities in Texas recovering from the unprecedented winter storm that blanketed the state. This builds on a $250,000 donation by Sempra Energy for food relief in Houston and Southeast Texas and will bolster a $1 million donation by Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC (Oncor), of which Sempra Energy is a majority owner, to community organizations within its service territory.

The SWLA Alliance’s “Pathway to Small Business Recovery” Grant Program (initially made possible by a $150,000 seed grant from the Sempra Energy Foundation) has been picked up for a second round of funding provided by the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana. During the first funding cycle, fifty local small businesses were awarded $3,000 each.
“We are overjoyed and relieved that the Community Foundation has stepped in to continue this vital assistance for hurricane impacted businesses that need quick funding to return to business”, said George Swift, President/CEO of the Alliance. “With this new avenue of funding, we are now able to extend the scope of this grant to include all five parishes within Southwest Louisiana: Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron & Jeff Davis,” continued Swift. ....
