A lot of cloud across england and wales with persistent rain in the southern part of Northern England and showers to the south of that. Gusty winds and some of the showers contain hail and snow as well. But it is drifting ever eastwards over the next few hours. A touch of frost but typically it is around three degrees. Wet across the South East Of England and some of the Rain Fringing into the south east of wales. Most of wales, the midlands and towards the south east, a reasonable start to the day. More cloud of the eastern counties of england but rain number less. Brighter in Northern Ireland. More cloud for large parts of scotland. Daunting task for strong Irish team at European Indoors

Sport Journalist Much has been made of the size of the 23-strong Irish team which will compete over the four days of the upcoming European Indoor Championships in Torun this weekend, but ultimately the currency of success is medals and winning even one from four days of competition looks a daunting task.  The Ireland team, however, has had a long and happy relationship with the most accessible championship for its athletes who earned two podium successes from the last staging in 2019.  Mark English, the bronze medallist over 800 metres in Glasgow last time out, returns to a championship which has seen him also win silver in Prague back in 2015.
