WESTPORT The skies above Compo Beach will again be empty this Fourth of July.
The town announced this year’s annual Compo Beach Independence Day fireworks will be canceled out of concerns for COVID-19 and uncertainty with the ongoing pandemic.
“I am disappointed that this year Westport could not hold the large celebration we had hoped for,” First Selectman Jim Marpe said. “But our town has come too far in our successful battle to overcome COVID to risk a possible setback by conducting a major gathering prematurely.”
The decision was made by town officials in collaboration with the Westport Police Athletic League’s board of trustees and in consultation with the health district. ....

Westport First Selectman Issues Update on COVID-19 Vaccinations

Important Information from the Westport Weston Health District (WWHD)
The COVID-19 vaccination clinic originally scheduled for yesterday, February 18, has been 
rescheduled to Monday, February 22 due to yesterday’s inclement weather. Only the clinic date has changed. The appointment time and location for Monday’s clinic remain the same – Westport Senior Center (21 Imperial Ave, Westport, CT 06880). All those affected have been directly contacted by WWHD staff.

This week, Governor Ned Lamont announced that over 500,000 Connecticut residents received their first vaccination and over 240,000 have received the second vaccination for a total of 747,000 vaccinations.  Connecticut ranks third in the nation for vaccine administration.  Since Connecticut vaccinated its nursing homes, resident cases have decreased from a high of 483 in the fi ....

TEAM Westport, the Town of Westport’s diversity action committee, has announced the topic for its 2021 Teen Diversity Essay Contest. Now in its eighth year, the contest asks teens to address the advent of ‘Black Lives Matter” on their nation and community.
