The 16th Tamil Nadu Assembly elections for 234 seats on Tuesday went off peacefully with no untoward incident reported across the State. But the voter turnout at 71.79 per cent (till 7 pm; could be revised on Wednesday) was the lowest in the last three elections as voters preferred to stay at home due to hot weather and Coronavirus.
The 2016 elections saw 74.81 per cent turnout and in 2011 it was 78.01 per cent. In neighbouring Puducherry, the turnout in this election was 78.03 per cent. ....

Chennai/Puducherry: Curtains came down on the single-phase Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Polling was peaceful across the state and the Union Territory.
While computing the final turnout will take time, in Tamil Nadu, the voter turnover as of 5 p.m., was 63.65 per cent and in Puducherry, it was about 78 per cent, officials said.
Voting for the lone Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha seat where the bypoll was simultaneously held came to an end. ....

Chennai, April 5 : The dawn of Tuesday will see about 6.26 crore one day sultans in Tamil Nadu exercising their democratic rights to vote their ruler from Fort St. George here for the next five years.
Apart from the Assembly elections, there will also be the bypoll for the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha seat in the state.

Campaigning in a multi-corner contest in all seven Assembly constituencies in Virudhunagar though was fought with all intensity by political parties, it went off peacefully in Virudhunagar district.
