The International Baccalaureate (IB) has cancelled exams across the country because of rising Covid-19 cases. The exams had been scheduled for next month.
The decision was taken on Wednesday and heads of schools were informed over email late in the evening.
“Following continued conversations with our schools, associations and education boards, the IB can confirm that all IB schools in India will follow the non examination route for the Diploma Programme.,” said an email sent to the heads of IB schools.
Three schools Calcutta International School, The Heritage School and Modern High School for Girls offer the IB diploma programme (for Classes XI and XII) in the city.

A number of city schools are set to scrap the summer break for students who will be promoted to Class XI this year to make up for the loss of days resulting from delayed start of the session.
The examinees are also set to have a shorter break between the end of the ICSE (Class X) exams and the start of Class XI session five to 10 days in most schools, instead of the usual two to three weeks.
The Class X board exams are usually over by the end of March and the Class XI session starts towards the middle of April.

Several schools in the city will take into account teachers technological skills during their appraisals this year.
In a couple of schools, the format of the appraisal forms have changed and heads of institutions said teachers adaptability to technology will be given more weightage because classes were held online.
Earlier, technology was used to supplement in-person classes but it was not as integral as it has become now, the heads said.

KOLKATA: Schools in Bengal are likely to reopen their campuses for pupils in classes IX to XII from February 12, state education minister Partha Chatterjee said on Tuesday. A decision on junior classes will be taken later. The government is likely to issue a detailed school reopening SOP on Wednesday.
The minister has also scheduled a meeting with vice-chancellors of various universities on Wednesday to decide when higher education campuses would open.
Tuesday’s announcement would be a relief to pupils, especially the several lakh who are set to take this year’s Class X and XII board exams. Bengal is the only state where schools haven’t yet reopened, in some form or the other, since the abrupt shutdown last March, at the start of the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
