ICSE schools prepare to start Class XI online lessons Move follows board notice cancelling class X board exams
ICSE schools in the city are planning to start Class XI early after the council cancelled the Class X exams on Monday and advised schools to start “online classes for the Class XI students at the earliest”.
Several schools said they were planning to start either by the end of this month or in the first week of May.
Schools are considering the students’ academic performance in Class X and IX before granting them admission.
In some schools, admission tests have been conducted in science subjects and mathematics to assess the students’ aptitude.
Schools are flooded with queries from parents and students on whether CBSE and ICSE board exams will be held on schedule as Covid-19 cases are rising across the country.
The CBSE Classes X and XII, ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) theory papers are scheduled to start on May 4.
Several school heads said the preparation for the exams was on across schools but there was an “increasing uneasiness” among the students and teachers.
For both ICSE and ISC exams, admit cards have been distributed, answer sheets have reached schools and invigilation rosters across schools are ready. Question papers usually come 10 days before the start of the exam, at least two principals said.

A number of city schools are set to scrap the summer break for students who will be promoted to Class XI this year to make up for the loss of days resulting from delayed start of the session.
The examinees are also set to have a shorter break between the end of the ICSE (Class X) exams and the start of Class XI session five to 10 days in most schools, instead of the usual two to three weeks.
The Class X board exams are usually over by the end of March and the Class XI session starts towards the middle of April.
