Cisco has entered into an agreement to buy a routed optical networking technology provider and a virtual platform on which to host virtual events.
In the first case, Cisco has agreed to purchase Sedonasys (Sedona Systems), whose NetFusion technology is said to be market leader for the hierarchical controller (HCO) that enables multi-supplier, multi-domain automation, and software-defined networking. Cisco describes HCO as “the brain” that enables network transformation such as 5G network slicing, routed optical networking, and disaggregation. ....

Cisco buying network tech company in deal reportedly worth $100M


RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK –Cisco is acquiring communications technology firm Sedona Systems in a deal reportedly worth $100 million.
Sedona is based in California.
The key to the deal is Sedona’s NetFusion platform which is designed to optimize, simplify and automate network control.
The deal was announced Tuesday.
Calcalist, a business news site, reported the deal to be worth $100 million.

Cisco to acquire Sedona Systems


Cisco Systems plans to acquire Sedonasys Systems, also known as Sedona Systems, a maker of communications technologies.
The networking giant revealed its intent to buy Sedona Systems for its NetFusion platform, its Hierarchical Controller (HCO) for optimising, simplifying and automating network control.
The two companies did not disclose financial details of the transaction. However, Israeli business news site Calcalist estimated the deal to be worth US$100 million.
The NetFusion platform automatically discovers, aggregates, and analyses network data from multiple online systems and optical and IP sources, providing real-time, network-wide data that is then used by different NetFusion products. These products reduce the complexity, cost, time, and resources needed to plan, forecast, and operate the optimal network infrastructure, according to Sedona Systems. ....

Cisco Systems intends to acquire Israel-based Sedona Systems in a bid to add more network visibility and automated operation capabilities to its Routed Optical Networking family.
The deal, announced in a blog post by Kevin Wollenweber, vice president of networking for Cisco s Mass-Scale Infrastructure Group, comes a little over a month after Cisco announced its Routed Optical Networking offering, a major piece of the vendor s Converged SDN Transport blueprint, at the company s Cisco Live! event.

Cisco announced on Tuesday that it was acquiring Hierarchical Controller market leader Sedonasys Systems in an effort to beef up its multi-vendor, multi-domain automation, and software-defined networking offerings. 
Kevin Wollenweber, vice president of product management in the Service Provider Network Systems for Cisco, explained in a blog post that in order to expand the internet and operate networks at massive scale for the billions of new users coming down the pipeline, the internet had to be reinvented in certain ways.
