Some improvements are on the way for a dangerous section of U.S. Highway 1 in Howard County, Maryland. The Maryland State Highway Administration said Tuesday that it has secured $3.5 million in federal funding to improve four intersections along 9 miles of the highway (also known as Washington Boulevard) from North Laurel to Elkridge. At the intersection with Brewers Court, a pedestrian-activated signal will be installed, along with protected space in the median and more-visible crosswalks. At the Guilford Road intersection, a pedestrian/cyclist path will be built along southbound U.S. 1 from Guilford to a nearby sidewalk. More-visible crosswalks and upgraded pedestrian crossing signals will also be added. ....
May 12, 2021 Governor Larry Hogan authorized Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Secretary Greg Slater to take emergency measures to respond to the Colonial Pipeline incident and ensure continuity of fuel supply throughout the state. “The emergency actions that we are taking will provide the state the flexibility it needs to address any disruption in fuel supply,” said Governor Hogan. “It is important for Marylanders to know that the supply chain is still working albeit more slowly than usual and there is no need for panic buying. While the operators of the pipeline anticipate that the disruption is likely to be short-term, we continue to prepare for all contingencies as part of our statewide response.” ....

Subscribe Capital Express Mobility Partners (CEMP) protested the agency s decision to award the multi-billion dollar I-495/I-270 project to a rival, Accelerate Maryland Partners, in March. That protest was denied after MDOT s contracting officer upheld the agency s process for evaluating the three bids it received.
