TACLOBAN CITY- The first solon of the newly created Southern Leyte's 2nd legislative district is pushing for the creation of an additional Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) district engineering office in the province. Outgoing Vice Governor Christopherson Yap, the 2nd district congressman-elect, said the establishment of the office is a priority since this is crucial in the rehabilitation of infrastructure destroyed by Typhoon Odette in December 2021. "This is the first bill that I will file since the proposal did not make it in the 18th Congress. We want a fully functional DPWH office independent from the regional office," Yap told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in an interview on Friday. On Nov. 24, 2021, DPWH Acting Secretary Roger Mercado issued a directive creating the Southern Leyte sub-district engineering office to be "manned by appropriate personnel from the regional office and other district engineering offices" within Eastern Visayas. & ....

Meanwhile, DPWH-5 (Bicol) director Virgilio Eduarte said they have installed warning signs along intermittent portions of Daang Maharlika that were affected by the ash falls in the towns of Juban, and Casiguran. "Slow Down signs have been placed on affected highways so that motorists are guided while we also conduct an assessment of any damage to our national roads and bridges," Eduarte said in a statement. He added that they continue to monitor and assess the areas affected by the current condition of the volcano. "To date, there has been no reported damage on our roads and bridges but we will continue to assess and monitor the situation since the a ....
Access road project in Zamboanga Sibugay (DPWH photo) MANILA - Infrastructure projects are undoubtedly one of the hallmarks of the Duterte administration that will conclude in a month. The Duterte government delivered what it promised five years ago, according to the report of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) acting Secretary Roger Mercado at the Duterte Legacy Summit held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City on Monday. President Rodrigo Duterte made the commitment on July 24, 2017 during his State of the Nation Address and massive infrastructure projects have since become synonymous with the government. "Build, Build, Build" (BBB) chief implementer Undersecretary Emil Sadain delivered the report of Mercado. "We will make the next few years the golden age of infrastructure in the Philippines to enhance our mobility and connectivity, and thereby spur development growth. In other words, we are going to build, build and build," ....
