Goa Medical College: 15 more patients die at Goa Medical College due to oxygen shortage | Goa News


Despite raising an SOS, police and health department officials reaching GMC in the wee hours of the night after the alarm of oxygen fluctuations in central pipeline was raised, 15 people died last night.
PANAJI: The state government’s failure to rectify the erratic supply of oxygen at Goa Medical College saw around 15 more Covid-19 patients dying in the “dark hours” of Thursday. The deaths, which occurred between 2am and 6am, coincided with a two hour long phase where oxygen pressure in GMC’s central line plummeted.
The crisis unfolded around 1:25 am when relatives began making SOS calls saying that oxygen levels were dropping at GMC. The reports were confirmed at 2.10 am when it was established that wards 145, 144, 146, 143, 149 GMC had an oxygen shortage. A doctor at ward 147 said only three cylinders were left. The drop has happened second time tonight. Patients on ventilator are being affected. docs at GMC begin to get flustered as authorities avoid their SOS ....

‘Distribute them equitably, these are desperate times’
The Bombay High Court at Goa on Wednesday said, “Whatever cylinders are available, it is time the government takes control of them and distributes them equitably. These are desperate times.”
A Division Bench of Justices M.S. Sonak and N.W. Sambre was hearing a public interest litigation filed by the South Goa Advocates’ Association, seeking direction from the court on COVID-19 management in Goa. ....
