Lacson: Commander-in-Chief Cannot Surrender on WPS Issue
The Philippines Commander-in-Chief cannot afford to send the wrong message - especially implied surrender or resignation - on our territorial disputes with China in the West Philippine Sea, Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson said Tuesday.
Lacson said this after President Rodrigo Duterte said Monday night that the Philippines may risk bloodshed and a no-win situation if it asserts its jurisdiction.
He s the leader of our country and he s the commander-in-chief of our armed forces. He can think of anything and speak about anything except surrender. Remember, we have an arbitral ruling in our favor and it s permanent although it s unenforceable. There are so many things to think about except surrender. TUCP backs calls for China pullout from reef
MANILA, Philippines The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) supports the statements of Secretaries Delfin Lorenzana and Teodoro Locsin Jr. in demanding the withdrawal of Chinese naval, militia and maritime presence in and around Julian Felipe Reef.
The TUCP believes that the Chinese presence is “an encroachment both of the territorial integrity of the Philippines and a denigration of national sovereignty.”
“With these senior officials of government, we cannot, as an independent, self-respecting people, allow this brazen effrontery and continuing Chinese incursion into the Philippines, to remain unmet and unchallenged,” the group said. ....

Additional transport planes, helicopters: PH could use 'more help' from US, says senator

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 16) The Philippines could use “more help” and assistance from the United States, including additional military equipment, a senator said on Tuesday.
“As longtime partners and friends, I think we need, particularly on our area of support, we lack helicopters,” Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri said in an interview with CNN Philippines’

“Any help from our dear ally the United States would be welcome, maybe a few more transport planes and few more helicopters,” he added.
Zubiri clarified that the government has the budget to augment this, but that funds may not be enough to prioritize military equipment amid the ongoing pandemic. ....
