Organized labor taking a major blow in the south as employees at the volkswagen plant in chattanooga, tennessee, voted against joining the united auto workers union. the decision expecting to obstruct the long-term plans to organize other auto plants down south. brian llenas live with more. united auto workers membership and influence has been declining for decades. uaw publically admitted that the union has no long-term future if they cannot begin to organize outside of detroit s three major auto companies and expand to the at least 14 foreign auto assembly plants in the southern united states. which is why yesterday s vote was such a big deal. chattanooga volkswagen plant was seen by supporters as the uaw s best chance to begin expanding into the south. after three days of secret balloting, workers at the plant voted friday night 712-626 against joining the uaw. ....
