SEBASTIAN One subject kept coming up over and over during Monday’s virtual workshop sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation to discuss the County Road 510 widening project.
Participants were concerned about plans to build a roundabout at the intersection of C.R. 510 and 66th Avenue, with many expressing displeasure with the idea.
“I’ve lived all over the United States and I’ve seen what roundabouts do,” said Wabasso resident Sylvester McIntosh. “They are not in the best interests of anybody.”
FDOT first floated the idea of a roundabout at the 66th Avenue and C.R. 510 intersection during a 2018 public workshop and met with some resistance from participants. At the time, many felt including the roundabout would create more traffic confusion than it would solve because many people are unfamiliar with how to navigate the traffic circle correctly.
