The rough seas. divers say they are facing zero visibility on the sea floor which is sure of course to be littered with sharp tangled wreckage of the plane. search officials are still hopeful that large shadowy objects are, indeed, the plane s fuselage but one piece has already been dismissed. it turns out to be that of a ship wreck. so electronics could play a bigger role in the search. the uss fort worth becomes the second u.s. navy ship now to take part. the fort worth is equipped request side-scan sonar and can help map the area. this morning, we re learning of a remarkable twist in the investigation. it turns out, the doomed flight should never have taken off. it did not have permission to fly from the surabaya airport to singapore on that fatal day on sunday which, of course ended in tragedy. let s go to surabaya where the flight originated and where david molko is standing by. david, how significant of a development is this? ....

Other ships, choppers, airplanes. this is a huge international effort. we get the feeling it s all hands on deck at this point russia coming in with two planes a couple dozen divers. south korea, indonesia, singapore, japan, malaysia and the u.s. all involved in this search. despite weather and challenging conditions we re hearing waves of 10 to 14 feet. searchers seem to be making some progress. we saw images of what looked like part of the window section or a window pane of the airbus 8320 come out on friday. that s a real first look at anything that looks like a an aircraft. the priority still to recover human remains. 30 bodies recovered so far. still a ways to go for search officials. also they re looking, they re starting to look underwater and listen underwater for the sound of the black boxes, hopefully to find those which will shed some light on what may have happened aboard the aircraft and also to ....

Main wreckage. and there s a lot of hope in the sunday search. reporter: yeah fredricka, a lot of hope indeed when the sun comes up in three to four hours now in surabaya. out in the search zone that s several hundred kilometers northwest of where i am. conditions expected to improve drastically, that is really important. we ve been seeing waves, 10 to 12 to 16-foot range. choppy seas making it really really difficult for divers to get in and out of the water. we re told by search officials that up to 90 divers are onsite or on their way. that s a lot of manpower. if they can t get in or out to do their job, it s definitely going to slow things down. about those objects, we re told by the head of indonesia s search and rescue agency that they have sonar imaging of them. that gives the shape of the object that it s definitely man made. in some senses we re told that a ....

I m jake tapper. where i am in washington, d.c., it is still 2014. but in indonesia, it has been 2015 for half an hour where search teams in indonesia are braving terrible weather. they ve now brought four bodies from airasia flight 8501 to shore. two arrived in the daylight hours. two more just a few minutes ago. so far, at least seven bodies have been retrieved from the java sea where the airbus a320 went down on sunday with 162 passengers and crew on board. 18 of them children. the plane itself or sizable parts of it may have now been spotted by sonar on the ocean floor. though search officials have yet to confirm that. we do know that the bodies that have been retrieved are being flown to surabaya, indonesia, where flight 8501 originated. they re being brought there in numbered caskets. there they will be examined and with help from families already devastated by this tragedy, they will hopefully be identified. ....
