Major coronavirus metrics continue to head lower in the US, and now also globally. New cases in the US during the week ending May 8th were down 18.6% from new cases during the week ending May 1st, and are now down 83.3% from the January peak; this week also saw fewer new cases than any week since September. This week s US deaths attributed to Covid were 6.8% lower than the prior week s, and down 80.5% from the January high; US Covid deaths are now at the lowest rate since since the second week of July.

TEHACHAPI, Calif. â A California woman is trying to respect one of natureâs endangered raptors, after they descended on her home and are being destructive guests.
Thanks to efforts to increase populations, there are about 200 California condors living in the wild in California.
More than a dozen of the large birds have decided to call Cinda Mickolsâ place their home for now. Mickols lives about two hours outside Los Angeles.
She had seen condors near her property before, but she was not prepared for what she saw last week.

TEHACHAPI, CALIFORNIA (AP) – Giant California condors are rare – but not at Cinda Mickolsâ home.
About 15 to 20 of the giant endangered birds have recently taken a liking to the house in the city of Tehachapi and made quite a mess.
Mickolsâ daughter, Seana Quintero of San Francisco, began posting photos of the rowdy guests on Twitter.
She told the San Francisco Chronicle the birds showed up at her motherâs home sometime last weekend.
The birds have trashed the deck – ruining a spa cover, decorative flags and lawn ornaments. Plants have been knocked over, railings scratched and thereâs poop everywhere.
