Tobin finshed 11th in the 3000-metre final
Sean Tobin came home 11th in the final of the 3000 metres at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Torun, Poland this afternoon.
The Clonmel athlete was in the leading pack early on, but an injection of pace from eventual winner Jakob Ingebrigtsen split the field with Tobin ending up in the chasing group.
He ran a time of 7:58:11, which was over 10 seconds slower than his semi-final run, while the Norwegian added 3000 metre gold to his earlier 1500 metre first place.

NORWAY’S SUPERSTAR JAKOB Ingebrigtsen made history today, becoming the first male athlete to complete a 1500m/3000m double at the European indoor championships.
Having controlled the early pace, the 20-year-old then changed the direction of the race with 800 metres remaining, posting back-to-back 28-second laps to burn off his challengers.
One of those was Sean Tobin, the Irishman running in his first European final, who had come into this race with a personal best in qualification.

There was no medal to celebrate for Phil Healy in the final of the 400 metres at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Torun, Poland.
Some satisfaction for the Cork athlete, though, in setting a PB of 51.94.
In a field stacked of talented runners. Healy pushed hard in the final 100 metres, but was just two tenths of a second short in making the podium. It s a European final, it s a PB, it s a fourth place, was Healy s summation of her third run at these championships when speaking to RTÉ Sport. Getting to a final is bonus territory. It s my third run since yesterday morning. I m buzzing from that performance in a world-class field.

Sarah Lavin and Sean Tobin have set lifetime bests on day two of the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland, with both promising potentially more to come in Torun.
Clonmel AC and Dublin Track Club star Tobin clocked a new mark of 7 minutes, 47.71 seconds in coming fifth in his 3000m semi-final, only being a second off winner Andrew Butchart of Britain (7:46.46) in a blanket finish.
Tobin had stayed close to the front throughout, looking very comfortable around fifth place and was never out of touch with the lead, with the first three qualifying automatically for tomorrow’s final, along with the next three fastest losers.
