Association members want the city to allow beekeeping within Washington city limits, pointing to what they consider an effective beekeeping ordinance adopted by Peoria in 2016 after a similar campaign. There are about 150 association members in Tazewell, Peoria and Woodford counties. Some members are experienced beekeepers. Others are new to the hobby. Peoria is the lone community in the three-county area that allows beekeeping. Association members want other communities to join the list. We re starting with Washington. We want to get other several communities in the three counties on board. Places like East Peoria, Morton, Pekin and Metamora, said Pam Tomka, the association treasurer. ....
Washington native is helping re-do a plaza at the Illinois State Fairgounds coliseum PEORIA The northwest entrance to the historic coliseum at the Illinois State Fairgrounds is getting a new look courtesy of Washington native Sean Rennau and artist David Seagraves of Elizabeth. A landscape architect and civil engineer with Austin Engineering in Peoria, Rennau teamed up with Seagraves to create a design which, this spring, won the Art-In Architecture call out issued by the state of Illinois. “This is part of a state of Illinois program, arts and architecture they call it, when the state spends a certain amount of money on a public building, a percentage of that has to go to an art project,” said Seagraves. ....
