A former professor at Maynooth University said he âstrongly disagreedâ with the conclusion of the collegeâs president, Prof Philip Nolan, that the professional relationship between two senior academics had broken down and one of the parties needed to be moved to a different role where they had no teaching or research work. Prof Paul Donovan, emeritus associate professor at the Maynooth Universityâs School of Business, told a hearing of the Labour Court that he also disagreed with Prof Nolanâs view that a row between the two academics, Robert Galavan and Peter McNamara, was affecting the work of the school. ....

An inquest into the death of a pensioner in a house fire in Dublin’s north inner city heard forensic experts were unable to establish how the fire started. George Healy (78) was found unconscious in his home on Hibernia Avenue, North Strand on the evening of December 22nd, 2017 after a neighbour alerted emergency services after seeing smoke coming from the property. Efforts to resuscitate Mr Healy, who was discovered in the kitchenette of the house, proved unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead a short time later at the Mater Hospital. ....
