Different backgrounds a strength at Seaforth Men's Shed

Their backgrounds could not be more different: a mechanical engineer, surveyor, TAFE instructor, and professional fisherman to name a few.
But the 22 members of the Seaforth Men s Shed share camaraderie and an eagerness to learn from each others expertise.
They can now craft just about anything from wood-turned tables and chairs to fancy walking sticks made out of pieces of driftwood scavenged from nearby Seaforth Beach.

And with a new dedicated metal work shed, their imaginations were the limit.
Secretary Neil Matthews said his favourite part of being a member was the companionship and men-only time. ....

Ivan and Anne Butson s sea-change brought them from the opposite side of Australia when they ditched WA to retire in the quaint village of Seaforth.
It was a decision neither have looked back on.

Hey Seaforth, we still haven t managed to find those secret fishing spots but we won t hold that against you.
In fact, the last time the Daily Mercury s My Town series ventured to your piece of paradise, you were so welcoming that we want to come back.
And we know there s some big changes planned for the esplanade but undoubtedly there s more stories just waiting to be told.
My Town is headed back to Seaforth on Tuesday with reporter Heidi Petith and Mackay Councillor Pauline Townsend at the Seaforth Bowls Club from 11am.
Heidi hopes to meet residents, recognise unsung community heroes, celebrate new businesses opening and explore issues that need addressing. ....

Bowls clubs' support for Wests' recovery knows no ends


 
That call was answered by clubs including from Seaforth, Sarina, Marian, St Helens, Northern Beaches, North Mackay, Suburban and Wests, with about 71 players registering.
It was an unprompted gesture that bowled over Wests Tigers Bowls Club president Scott Grayson.
It is a great response from everybody, he said.
 
There has been a huge response from other clubs and through sponsorship.
Because of the happenings at the front door, we thought it would be a bit of fun and (Wests Leagues Club) has been really great to us.
He said sponsors came through with cash donations, vouchers and other items to be raffled off with proceeds going to the club. ....
