The Rotary Club of Santa Clarita donated $9,500 to College of the Canyons, which will be divided equally to establish a scholarship fund for culinary arts students and the college’s Basic Needs Center.
The one-time grant will make it possible to award four expendable scholarships to culinary students and cover the general operational costs of the BaNC.
“While the Rotary organization has been a strong supporter historically of the College and COC students, we are proud to see this renewed and ongoing support,” said COC Foundation Executive Director Michelle Rey.
The donation was presented to the college on Friday, Jan. 22 by Rotary SCV President Glenn Terry and SCV Rotary Vocational Chair Linda Pedersen. ....

SCVNews.com | Feb. 6: PPE Unite, SCV Chamber to Host One-Day PPE Mobile Distribution Event


The Los Angeles Small Business Development Center, Los Angeles County’s Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce are teaming up with PPE Unite to launch a Personal Protection Equipment distribution mobile PPE-Up on Saturday, Feb. 6th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westfield Valencia Town Center.
The Mobile PPE-Up event is the latest effort by PPE Unite and partners to support small business owners and their employees by providing them with a free 30-day supply of personal protection protective gear for all eligible small businesses in Los Angeles County.
“As businesses face adversity with the health crisis and future lockdowns, our goal is to ensure that businesses don’t have further burdens to their bottom line with financial costs of PPE on the rise,” said Jay Tsao, co-founder of PPE Unite. “We see what disruption one single COVID-compromised employee can do to an entire company and their operations. ....

County Counsel Rodrigo Castro-Silva presented before the board the following possibilities for removing Villanueva:
Amend the county’s charter: Get an amendment on the ballot would require public initiative or a board ordinance. It would then require a simple majority vote from residents.
Recall the sheriff: This process starts with a notice of intention with 20 resident signatures filed with the Registrar/Recorder’s Office and published in a newspaper. If proponents gather sufficient signatures within 160 days and are certified as valid, the recall election can take place.
Present an accusation: The sheriff must appear in court and answer to a civil grand jury accusation against him for willful or corrupt misconduct. If he pleads guilty or fails to respond, he can be convicted. If he denies the matter, a jury trial, similar to that of an indictment, is set. What constitutes willful or corrupt misconduct has not been defined. ....
