Heard on the move. one of the things that s grave concern to the israelis here is that over the past five or six days that the discussion in washington has gone on so publicly is that has given a lot of time for the syrians and also the iranians to make threats and at one point they may actually end up having to live up to. that s something that s awfully scary for the israelis here. syrians, for their part, are moving a lot of their missile batteries out into fighting positions, particularly up into some of the mountainous areas where it would be difficult for cruise missiles to get them. a number of these missiles aren t icbms in the sense of american missiles but actually mobile scud launchers much more difficult to target with cruise miss skills and trying to move chemical weapons storerooms around. these things is what the israelis are monitoring as we speak. obviously everyone here, who is waiting for the news of the u.n. inspectors, to head out, that was seen as kind of a poin ....
Bull in a ring. oklahoma, yeah, we all did those drills. but, again, u.s. football is doing heads up football. there s a lot of things, we can t keep living in retrospect about how the game used to be, but each generation will improve as far as their knowledge. tell all my 75-year-old little ladies who are watching at home what the heads up is, just so that folks know. usa football is the partnership with the nfl. the youth government body and it teaches about proper tackling, proper education, and they re going into little, minute communities in alabama, missouri, whenever, and teaching the proper tackling that doesn t encourage clothesline tackles or head-to-head tackles. so this generation from the youth level will trickle up. you re finding on the big end, you re finding more fines for the nfl, and on the youth end, they are teaching better technique. and those fine that s definitely right. that said, those fines are going for the kind of hits like the scud and patriot mi ....
Because of what this president decides to do. the assad family will be okay, of course. the designers of that vogue magazine spread won t be angu h anguished by the sight of this thoroughly western family lying on the floor. no, the people who will die in an american cruise missile attack will be the working, praying little family people whose husbands do the scud work. war sucks. even in neat little bite-size act of war like the one that might come any day now. and, yet, and yet. how do we avoid this flagrant reality if we don t? those deciding in tehran right now whether to build a nuclear bomb are looking to see what the people in washington are doing. if we threaten the country, if it uses one weapon of mass destruction and goes ahead and ignores us, what worth does our threat hold against that other country deciding whether to build theirs? is there any way we can convince iran not to go nuclear if we let syria so flagrantly go chemical? ....
Response to whether the french will come in we don t know. perhaps we will hear that from the secretary of state. james any word on that? reporter: i doubt there will be ex-split is references to iraq. too much time can be spent on historical comparisons. there are very vital and urgent questions present in what is going on today whether u.s. national security interests are essentially at stake in syria, what should be done best to advance them. how it can be done with minimal loss of life and what impact it will have on the syrian civil war which is grinding on two years from now quite apart from this chemical attack taken 100,000 lives, jon. jon: yes. one of the concerns that military planners have expressed is the fact that they have seen evidence that bashar al-assad, the leader of syria, has been moving some of his weaponry, scud missiles and scud missile launchers and so forth, have been moved in recent days. these, basically unnaped military experts are saying if there were to ....
Regime? that s what they are entirely determined to do. we heard similar comments from the ones you re hearing from world leaders. from average people, refugees, that if no action is taken that it will encourage the bashar al assad regime to use more chemical weapons. if you look he history of the conflict, it began as a peaceful protest. then live ammunitions started to be used. then helicopters. then scud missiles. now according to numerous reports chemical weapons. if no action is taken now, we could see a lot more chemical attacks. so people on the ground were almost desperate asking for a not just u.s. military intervention or international umbrella intervention but one that s serious enough to not just register on a symbolic scale. all right, richard engel in turk turkey, just back from being across the border in syria. getting to the point of what the debate is here in washington. ....
