Flight attendants and obviously the aircraft which is the whole problem in the first place. just not able to match us up with the aircraft. i know that a lot of pilots and crew were just stuck. they weren t able to even themselves get through to people at southwest. what are the biggest issues you re seeing pilots face today in the second full day of this problem for southwest? so today we have seen that pilots are able to get through to crew scheduling. the wait times are much better, you know, down to normal times and that s due to obviously the reduction in flights, so less pilots having to worry about where they re going, what they re doing because now they know their flight rts canceled. they don t have to do certain things so that part is better. and that s going to help alleviate the system too. you ve blamed this outdated software we were just discussing with my colleague matt egan. that southwest had the opportunity to fix perhaps during the pandemic. and, you know, the ....

Travel alone due to southwest staffing shortages. did they give you a reason why? they just said that i guess their new policy and don t know what the restriction will be lifted that unaccompanied minors can t fly right now. reporter: southwest cancelled at least 15,700 flights since december 22nd including at least 2,500 scheduled for wednesday but while other airlines recovered, staff and union leader haves slammed southwest for failing to upgrade systems and critical infrastructure. flight attendants have been stranded, not only stranded but left to try to contact crew scheduling for hours on end. if you look at our competitors right here in denver, united airlines for instance they went through the exact same weather system we did and a, they didn t cancel as many flights and b, the recovery is faster. reporter: the transportation ....

In gabe s piece talk about the need for federal action in some way, shape or form. the u.s. transportation department says it will investigate what s happening. is there accountability that you can pinpoint that would actually help change this if the company itself is not willing to do so? you know, i don t know what the federal government getting involved, and if that s their per view, certainly, they can do that, this is a very simplistic problem to fix. something that, like i said, we ve been mentioning and trying to partner with the company since 2016 when we identified these, and it is literally the reinvestment back into the company and infrastructure and better software system to be able to handle crew management or the crew scheduling part of it, and it is the addiction to reassignments, massive reassignments, when something goes haywire, whether it s weather-related or atc-related. that s what s gotten us to where we are. the pilots don t have the tools. ....
