'Caring for Alfie was life-changing' - reality TV star April Sorley on why wildlife rescue is her passion


WHILE studying to be a nurse, April Sorley got a dog – and it was to be a life-changing decision.
“Alfie was a dream dog,” she smiles. “And when he fell ill and I had to care for him, it made me realise what I really wanted to do with my life.”
April, from Rutherglen, finished her course, switched to the Scottish Rural College to train in animal care instead, and started volunteering with the Scottish SPCA.
“A job opportunity came up when I was volunteering, to work at a rehoming centre, and I got it – and that was where it all began.” ....

When Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced an eleventh hour Brexit trade deal on Christmas Eve, Scottish farming breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Since the vote in favour of EU withdrawal in 2016, organisations such as the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) Scotland had warned of the calamitous impact of a no-deal outcome.
The final deal fell some way short of providing frictionless trade, but the EU’s decision to grant third-country listing status to the UK and to approve the export of meat and dairy was crucial, with Scottish red meat exports alone worth £80m annually. ....
