The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh has called on the Scottish government to increase efforts to attract consultants, especially to remote and rural areas.
The college described the recruitment and retention of senior medical staff in the NHS in Scotland as “one of the biggest challenges facing our health service.” It said in a statement, “Every vacant position increases the pressure on overstretched colleagues and erodes the ability of the NHS to provide the level of care that Scotland’s population requires.”
