And even though it is always a bad idea to do math on television, this one isnt that hard. If you add up 43 and 37 you do not get anywhere near 100 of the vote. What happened to the rest of the vote . The wacky thing about the 1992 election in terms of thinking about american binary red versus blue Party Politics is that another guy who ran that year, a third person, got almost 20 of the vote. It was ross perot, right . Giant sucking sound. Ross perot got a very large proportion of the vote for a thirdparty candidate. Nearly 20 . And who knows how the votes would have been divided between bill clinton and george h. W. Bush had ross perot not been in there that year. But one thing thats often forgotten about the 1992 race was that ross perot was not the only thirdparty candidate who ran that year. There was a whole slate of other thirdparty candidates nominated that year who did not make as big a spsh as mr. Sucking sound did. They did as well as thirdparty candidates usually do, which

The 1992 president ial election. That was the election that cut short poppy bushs time in office, right . He was only a oneterm president because he lost in 1992. Democrats like to remember 1992 as a triumphant year for the Democratic Party because there was this young arkansas democratic governor bill clinton unseating an incumbent republican president. The uncomfortable part of that memory for democrats is th
Bulshovik revolution, we had the u. S. S. R. Come into being. That was 1922. And then communism basically had its heyday on earth thereafter. At one point or another in the 20th century, the list of countries that ran on a communist system of government was a really, really big list. Right . The soviet union, yugoslavia, poland, romania, hungary, east germany, czechoslovakia, albania, bulgaria, right on our doorstep in the western hemisphere, of course, was cuba. Africa, the middle east, central asia, there was afghanistan, angola, ethiopia, mozambique, south yemen, somalia. Far east in southeast asia, of course, there was vietnam, north korea, laos, cambodia, mongolia, the big one, china. Talk about red states, right . In the heyday of communism, there were lots of communist countries not quite all over the world, but over really big swaths of the world. Turns out, though, that communism in practice is a pretty terrible way to run countries. Send your hate mail to rachel msnbc. Com. I
Embarrassment for nixon. So for his third try nixon chose Harry Blackman because blackman was seen so uncontroversial that he would be hard for anybody to vote against. Judge blackman made a good First Impression on the sfwhoors will help decide his fate, and barring the unexpected his nomination should sail through. Thus far no one has even asked to testify against him. But the unexpected already has occurred twice. So most senators still are not committing themselves. They find a super uncontroversial strategy worked for that nomination. Harry blackmuns nomination to the court was unanimously approved by the senate. On june 9th, 1970 he was sworn in to the court. For a guy chosen because he was seen as the most middle of the road nonoffensive guaranteed noncontroversial guy to stick in that spot, Justice Blackmun would go on just a couple of years later to write one of the most controversial u. S. Supreme Court Opinions ever. The court said in a 72 decision that in the first three mo
