hayward fault. no one was injured and it did not cause any serious damage. but it did rattle more than a few nurse. our reporter is in berkeley where he talks to people who live near the epicenter. reporter: seismologists place the epicenter pretty much here in front of the claremont hotel about eight miles down. millions of people no doubt got a rude awakening in the bay area. these people say they sleep like logs but still woke up this morning. i woke up with such a star. it was loud and got louder and louder. luckily, it stopped. it just stopped. it shook me and i woke up. it was very sudden. i instantly woke up. it was an eye-opener. reporter: this camera captured the sound of the earthquake along the hayward fault. every so often, about three or four times in the last 10 years, this patch ruptures. that is the earthquake. it produces produces earthquake events. reporter: the quake caused no damage, not even near the epicenter but it did frazzle some nerves.
