LOCK HAVEN Clinton County Commissioner Jeffrey Snyder got a surprise at Thursday’s county commissioners meeting.
The commissioners had secretly invited Lisa Schaefer, executive director of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP), to the Zoom meeting to offer some pretty special congratulations to the three-term commissioner.
It seems Gov. Tom Wolf and Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Dennis Davin announced that Snyder is a recipient of the 2021 Governor’s Awards for Local Government Excellence.
Snyder, who served as president of CCAP last year, was nominated by CCAP for the honor which is bestowed on communities, organizations and individuals for their dedication and commitment to strengthen their communities and better serve their residents. ....

LOGANTON – No criminal charges will be filed in relation to last month’s 64-vehicle pileup in a snowstorm on Interstate 80 near Loganton, state police say.
The initial investigations are completed into the 11 separate crashes that left tractor-trailer trucks and cars mangled on slightly more than a mile of highway, they said Thursday.
“It’s like something you don’t expect to see unless you are in a combat zone,” Scott Kemmerer, Clinton County emergency management director, had said earlier.
One driver was killed in the Dec. 16 pileup and another died from what Clinton County Coroner Zach Hanna said was sudden cardiac arrest. Some of the 22 injured required hospitalization. ....

Veteran first responder to I-80 massive pileups likens them to ‘a combat zone’

LOGANTON – A Clinton County fire chief who has responded to several pileups on Interstate 80, including one last week, said that it’s “like something you don’t expect to see unless you are in a combat zone.”
Sugar Valley Fire Chief Scott Kemmerer was one of those who raced to the scene of the 66-vehicle crash Dec. 16 on I-80 near Loganton.
“Carnage” would be a good word to describe the wreckage of last week’s crash, he said.
“Rigs were tossed about like matchbox cars,” he said, adding that the cars were significantly damaged. Of the 66 vehicles, 55 were big rigs. ....
