Deerpark Police Reform Committee members have concerns

DEERPARK - Police department reform and reinvention in Deerpark will be devised by five public officials and six community residents, nine men and two women, as announced by Deerpark Supervisor Gary Spears at a recent Town Board meeting.
The appointments follow Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s executive order requiring police departments to make reforms guided by community members and “stakeholders” in law enforcement.
Residents appointed to the committee include Margaret Spring, Scott Glynn, Bob Zeller, Mike Witt, Burt Thelander and Adhara Jimenez-Banse.
“Time is of the essence. It’s alarming to me that police are in the schools and that police may be sent to deal with mental health issues,” said Jimenez-Banse, who works in social services. “Are they properly trained? Walk With Scott Foundation donates £12,000 to Active Schools East Lothian

The Walk With Scott Foundation awarded Active Schools East Lothian £12,000.
The money will be used to provide support, training and equipment, minimising barriers to participation in sport and physical activity for children and young people.
Colin McGinn, vice-chair of the Walk With Scott Foundation and a Tranent ward councillor, said: “The Walk With Scott Foundation’s main ethos is to promote positive health and wellbeing throughout East Lothian.
“Funding awards such as this one for Active Schools supports our ethos and encourages inclusion by bringing people together in our communities.
“This is a significant award for the foundation to make and one that we feel will make a big difference to children and young people in East Lothian.” ....
