Fire departments are increasing staff and stressing hydration at scenes when the weather is hot and humid, which brings added risks of heat exhaustion and hyperthermia to an already dangerous job.
Some departments have been able to hire, but those in the industry say the need for additional trained people will continue. County officials are exploring a centralized training facility that would provide an array of programs.
