Celebrating Peter Matthiessen In An Evening Of Readings

On Thursday, December 17, at 6 p.m., The Peter Matthiessen Center will host a virtual gathering featuring an intimate reading of a few favorite passages of Peter Matthiessen’s most admired works by former friends and colleagues in the literary, environmental, human rights and Zen Buddhist world.
Scholar and environmentalist Bill McKibben will take part in a special presentation. Naturalist and New York Times best-selling author Carl Safina and environmentalist Alex Matthiessen the author’s son will both read from “The Snow Leopard.” Also taking part in the evening will be Rose Styron, a human rights activist and longtime friend of Matthiessen; Buddhist photographer Peter Cunningham, who accompanied Matthiessen on his 1982 pilgrimage to Japan recounted in “Nine-Headed Dragon River”; and farme ....
