Bird flu in Fife: government confirms case | Dunfermline Press


A CASE of bird flu has been confirmed in Fife, the second positive case in Scotland this year.
A flock of kept birds on a gamebird rearing premises in Leven, Glenrothes, has tested positive for avian influenza (H5N1).
In order to limit the further spread of disease, appropriate restrictions have been imposed on the premises, the Scottish Government announced.
The remaining birds at the premises will be humanely culled and 3 km and 10 km temporary control zones have been set up around the infected premises to limit the risk of the disease.
Within these zones a range of different controls are now in place. These include restrictions on the movement of poultry, carcasses, eggs, used poultry litter and manure. ....

A second outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed in Scotland.
The Scottish Government said a flock of kept birds at a gamebirds rearing site in Leven, Fife, has tested positive for the H5N1 strain of avian influenza.
The birds on site will be culled and temporary control zones of 1.8 miles (3km) and six miles (10km) have been set up to limit disease risk.
A range of controls are in place in these zones, including restrictions on the movement of poultry, carcasses, eggs, used poultry litter and manure. ....
