Time to catch breath

Yannick Bestaven on Maitre Coq wins the Vendee Globe 2020-21 © Jean-Marie Liot / Alea As if it weren t an already extraordinary time, the start of 2021 has been an incredible one for sailing. The Vendée Globe finish has been simply sensational and the PRADA Cup racing between INEOS TEAM UK and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli kept us all on the edge of our seats. From the point of view of reporting on the racing, having many of the major events happen in the middle of the night on UK time has been challenging. The irony of feeling jet lagged while in lockdown isn t lost on me.

Camaraderie - YachtsandYachting.com Newsletter

Camaraderie - YachtsandYachting.com Newsletter Dear Recipient Name As sailors we re incredibly lucky to have two events happening on the world stage which are able to take place in the Covid world. While the America s Cup and the Vendée Globe are from near opposite ends of the yacht racing spectrum, they share common traits, and the racing is close. Most importantly of all, they have both demonstrated the camaraderie which is a core principle of most sailors lives. Sailboat racing sees as fierce competitors as any sport, but when the chips are down, sailors rise to the challenge as one.

Life-changing sailing with the Scaramouche Sailing Trust

Life-changing sailing with the Scaramouche Sailing Trust 0shares With Black Lives Matter hitting the headlines in 2020, Scaramouche Sailing Trust’s Jaydon Owusu and Tyler Harriott wanted to share their experiences of the UK sailing community The Scaramouche Sailing Trust s Intro 22, Riot. Credit: Jon Holt/Scaramouche Sailing Trust Discussions range from immediate incidents to the nature of structures within all institutions and the opportunities provided. Sailing has a unique challenge in many regards. Historically, it is seen as a white, wealthy sport which is difficult to break into and very expensive to progress in. 15-year-olds Jaydon Owusu and Tyler Harriott sail the trust’s Intro 22. Students also have access to dinghies, 420s, Squibs, dragons and training yachts, including the German Frers 45, Scaramouche, many of which the students have restored themselves.
