Metro Police SergeantRichard Strader says this is a singlevehicle accident. At about 1 30 this morning, the 2003 mazda protege was speeding westbound on owens, and was attempting to make a right turn north onto pecos. The male driver lost control of the vehicle on the turn, and crashed into a utility pole here. Strader says the clerk at the nearby 7 11 ran outside, saw the driver was still alive, and attempted to remove him from the car. The Fire Department eventually had to extricate the driver.
