The city of Yanbu witnessed on Friday evening the closing ceremony of Saudi Dakar Rally 2024 in its 5th edition, and the 46th in the history of the world rally, after an exciting competition for 14 days in 12 stages, with a distance exceeding the 7,500 km. The rally witnessed the participation of 778 drivers and co-drivers using 434 vehicles in six categories: cars, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) or quads, desert Challenger vehicles, Side by Side (SxS) light commercial desert vehicles, and trucks.
The AlUla Governorate will host the fifth edition of the Saudi Dakar Rally 2024 (46th Dakar Rally) that will kick off on Friday. The rally will run until January 19, featuring 434 vehicles across multiple race categories and covering a distance of over 7,800 km. The 46th Dakar Rally introduces new routes that traverse diverse terrains, enabling participants to explore the landscapes and archaeological sites of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Competitors will encounter new challenges that heighten the suspense and excitement of the event.
The ministry stressed that this condition aims to facilitate the arrival procedures of those who are coming to perform Umrah upon their arrival through Saudi Arabia's ports, as well as to enrich the digital experience for the pilgrims.
The rally track for this year consists of an introductory stage, and 14 regular stages, as the drivers start the rally with an introductory trip from the sea camp in the northwestern mountainous regions before heading to the far southeast, passing through Al-Ula, Hail, Dawadmi, Haradh, the Empty Quarter, Shaybah, Hofuf, and Dammam.
