Colfax Ave., at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 29, for a photo shoot for a Denver Post article. What happened between that time and the actual photo shoot shocked him and left him rattled. Krumpholz, a chronicler of Denver’s urban environment, and seasoned Denver Post photographer AAron Ontiveroz were both attacked by a random man who attempted to stab both of them. ....
Colfax Avenue is looking a little brighter these days, now that the neon sign outside the Satire Lounge is glowing again. After being closed for eleven months, the bar at 1920 East Colfax Avenue started pouring again on Friday night, and although the kitchen isn t serving yet, customers can get food delivered from Pete s Kitchen, another spot in the eatery empire built by the late Pete Contos. The Satire was already a legendary venue Bob Dylan and the Smothers Brothers both performed there in 1960 when Contos bought the place in 1962. Now it s run by his grandson, Alex Barakos, who notes: We ve been seeing nightlife slowly coming back to Colfax Avenue. ....

(Provided by Save the Signs) Pete’s Satire Lounge, one of Denver’s iconic dive bars and a landmark on East Colfax Avenue, is reopening after nearly a year of closure. Its neon sign, which for six decades has beckoned customers of all stripes, will light back up for the public on Saturday, Feb. 20, manager Alex Barakos said this week. After that, the bar will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. ....
Over the past eleven months, Colfax Avenue just hasn t been the same without the glowing sign of Pete s Satire Lounge advertising Mixed Drinks. The pandemic closed the legendary watering hole last March (along with every other bar and dining room in the state), but unlike other spots that reopened at the end of May, the Satire remained shuttered. But now the Contos family, which has operated the bar at 1920 East Colfax Avenue for nearly sixty years, plans to reopen Pete s Satire Lounge on Friday, February 19. When restaurateur Pete Contos took over this spot in 1962, the Satire was already on its way to legendary status, having hosted performances by the Smothers Brothers and Bob Dylan two years before, when Walt Conley was booking the joint. From there, Contos launched a string of other Pete s eateries, including Pete s Kitchen next door. Contos passed away in 2019, but his family, including grandson Alex Barakos, still runs the restaurant and bar empire. And the time is ....
