5 schools ordered to be closed for 48 hours in Amritsar

The district Education Department has ordered to close for 48 hours (as per SOPs) five schools that reported fresh cases of Covid-19 here on Sunday. The decision comes after several cases of Covid-19 were reported from a private school and four government schools.
DEO Satinder Bir Singh said the department was following the required SOPs in the case. “We had received the detailed SOPs from the Civil Surgeon that states that in case of single Covid-19 positive case, individual quarantine and sampling of the contacts of the person, who tested positive, will be done.
In case more than one case of Covid-19 is reported from a particular institution, then it must be closed for 48 hours. We will be observing the situation in the coming days and watching closely for any further cases,” he said. On Sunday, five teachers from Senior Study School and four teachers from government schools in Sultanwind, Chabba, Manawala ....

A special event was held to honour the winners of the recent coding competitions conducted by the American India Foundation (US-based NGO) for leading the way in choosing their subject in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Satinder Bir Singh, District Education Officer (Sec), inaugurated the IBM programme being run by the American India Foundation (Project Implementation Agency) in government schools. Under the programme, the top-12 students from eight schools who had won the coding competition in the district were given certificates. Parminderjit Kaur, programme officer of the foundation, said in order to rouse students’ interest in coding in the district, HT Coding was taught through Kodathon s online platform. “After the students crossed six stages on the online platform, the 12 who cleared the qualifier round secured positions at the top 50 marks were awarded today,” she said. ....

1,313 students appear in Punjab State Talent hunt competition

A large number of students from government schools appeared for Punjab State Talent hunt competition initiated by Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla and Education Secretary Krishan Kumar to encourage students studying in government schools in the state for competitive examinations.
 The officials claimed that 82.5 per cent students appeared in competitions today.
 District Education Officer (Sec) Amritsar Satinderbir Singh expressed satisfaction over the peaceful examination after visiting various examination centers set up in District Amritsar for the examination conducted by State Education Research and Training Council Punjab. A total of 759 candidates were selected for Class VIII in District Amritsar out of which 624 students appeared for the examination which is 82.21 per cent of the total number. While 135 students were absent. Similarly 830 students were selected for the examination conducted for Class X students out of which 689 ....
