A total of 163 students and staff at 34 K-12 school districts were infected by known coronavirus outbreaks last week, according to data released Monday, May 24.
The latest school outbreaks report, published weekly by the Department of Health and Human Services, was an improvement from the prior week when 53 outbreaks resulted in 205 students and staff members being infected. The data includes preschools and daycares in those buildings.

Last week, the state reported 197 infections in new outbreaks at 65 K-12 school buildings.
The biggest new outbreaks involves 12 students on the track team at Fulton Middle School in Gratiot County; nine students at West Middle School in Rochester Hills, and eight students and staff at St. Stephen Catholic School in New Boston, which is part of metro Detroit.

Last week, the state reported 173 infections in new outbreaks at 41 K-12 school districts.
The biggest new outbreaks involves 28 students at Three Rivers High School and 24 students at Byron Center High School in suburban Grand Rapids.
K-12 school outbreaks were identified in 23 counties. Below are those outbreaks listed by county.
Allegan: Wayland Union High School, four students.
Bay: Bangor West Elementary, one student.
Berrien: Coloma High School, five students; Niles High School, two students.
