Popular cast members of the soapie Skeem Saam.
EXTRAS have painted a grim picture of how they are allegedly treated on the set of SABC1 soapie Skeem Saam.
They told Daily Sun that they were being made to feel less human, saying they ate at different times and their menu was not anything a human should be eating.
They claimed they were expected to leave the set late at night and still report for duty very early the following day.
“If we miss the allotted time for breakfast, we go hungry the whole day,” said one extra who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal. ....

In January, the channel announced that the soapie would be cut down from five to three episodes per week from April.
About the cut, Danie Odendaal productions said: We can only wait and see what the effect of the three days a week is going to be on viewership figures.
7de Laan in its weekday timeslot, the show says it makes absolute sense that viewers are disturbed over the SABC s shocking decision.
SABC2 plans to cut
7de Laan down from five to three episodes per week from April in the 18:00 timeslot. The Venda weekday soap Muvhango is also getting axed from 5 to 3 episodes per week from August in its 21:00 timeslot. ....

SABC2 cuts 7de Laan and Muvhango to just 3 episodes per week in shock scheduling shake-up

SABC2 is scaling back local soaps 7de Laan and Muvhango, reducing the number of episodes for both to just three a week.
A new Afrikaans telenovela, Die Sentrum, will take over the remaining two slots from 7de Laan, while the second season of Xitsonga series, Giyani, will fill the open spots left by Muvhango.
Merlin Naicker, the SABC s head of TV, says the changes are part of the broadcasters long-term plan to invest in quality local content .
