Few smells stir up nostalgia as quickly as a box of crayons. But for some, a box of crayons stirs up emotions. Until Crayola released its “Colors of the World” collection in 1992, many children would reach into a box only to discover there was no color to match their skin tone, not to mention a coloring page that represented their ethnicity or family structure. The coloring book puts an emphasis on different types of family structures. However, a coloring book titled “Finding Joy in our Differences” created by local organizations and Ringling College of Art and Design students is hoping to change that narrative. ....
Embracing Our Differences receives Community Foundation of Sarasota County grant Sarasota Herald-Tribune The Community Foundation of Sarasota County recently awarded Embracing Our Differences a $31,488 grant to help fund the cost of EOD’s EdExploreSRQ initiatives, including curriculum development and virtual field trips to the annual outdoor exhibit. The grant is provided by the Embracing Our Differences EdExploreSRQ Fund, which was created by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and The Patterson Foundation to raise awareness of and increase access to programming offered by Sarasota’s artistic, cultural, and scientific organizations. EdExploreSRQ is a web-based search platform that transforms the way Sarasota County teachers, principals, and parents identify and discover experiential learning opportunities in the community. ....
