UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. It has been more than 50 years since a full-length book was written about the Colored Conventions Movement the 19th century’s longest campaign for Black civil rights. In 1969, Howard Holman Bell, a scholar of African American history, published “The Negro Convention Movement: 1830-1861,” his dissertation.
