Earlier, during his roadshow in Kolkata on May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a significant stop at Sri Sri Sarada Mayer Bari in Baghbazar, offering prayers and meeting with the temple s saints. This visit holds historical significance as the abode of Sarada Devi, the spiritual consort of Ramakrishna, attracting devotees since 1909. Interestingly, PM Modi s visit followed allegations by Mamata Banerjee concerning the political influence on certain monks of institutions like the Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevashram Sangha. Banerjee later clarified that her remarks were directed at individual monks rather than the institutions themselves. In his address at a rally in Jadavpur, PM Modi criticized the West Bengal government, accusing it of lacking good governance and fostering a corrupt political environment focused solely on vote-bank politics. Kolkata: Massive Fire Destroys Slum, Leaves Hundreds Homeless

Kolkata: A massive fire in north Kolkata’s Bagbazar area on Wednesday evening destroyed the makeshift houses of hundreds of people, leaving them homeless in the winter.
Twenty-seven fire tenders took around four hours to control the blaze that broke out around 6.55 pm in the Hazari slum. Wind blowing in from the Ganga could also have spread the fire, local media has speculated.
